Guest Artist: Jasmine KeirFor the last 20 years my career has seen me engage with a direct selling technique by promoting prolifically at expos and markets throughout N.Z. under the home-wares name of ‘Jazz -Reflective Art’.
I am lucky to have sold Internationally and nationwide from Whangarei to Bluff. I have also participated in exhibitions and exhibited in galleries Nationwide. I have had a love affair with the South since 15 years old when I first moved here. My excitement for the area has seen me share equal time between Canterbury and Southland, which has offered me a mighty appreciation for the landscapes in between. I have returned to live 3 times. Having now established myself permanently in beautiful Centre Bush I am creating one off original artworks under my signature of Jasmine Keir in two core mediums creating two different finishes. The first, my lifetime love Enameled Glass. The second is a 5-year passion with oxidized copper. My interest lies deep within our natural environment and the connection between man and his impact...or lack of impact. I find Southland to be a most stunning and largely natural place in which I can explore the rugged rawness- often of similarities between the viewer, the situation and the subject. My work has evolved from a single medium of enamels on glass to that of many contributing mediums that form a sculpture or wall art. |

Jono Gardyne
Hi, I'm Jono Gardyne. My family and I run a mixed farming operation on the outskirts of Waikaka, which includes sheep, cattle, dairy support and cereal crops. I have always been interested in engineering, beginning with my Lego set when I was younger and have a skill for visualising concepts from materials.
My passion for metalwork grew as I realised I could create useful tools and implements for use within our business. Metal also required less finishing and upkeep for equipment, structures and art. We regularly replace worn parts of machinery on the farm and I enjoy recycling pieces as opposed to filling the scrap steel bin. So, after a visit to the Waikaka Arts and Crafts one year, I saw some small pieces which were created from workshop odds and ends and was inspired to create rustic garden art. It is great to see the full life cycle of the parts.
From new in the box, onto machinery, off in the workshop and finally turned into art.
My dragon was built especially for the Waikaka Arts and Crafts last year after I watched 'The Hobbit' and saw the dragon Smaug breathing fire. I thought that it would be pretty cool to have a outdoor fireplace which breathed fire and had " fire in its belly". I had recently replaced all the knife sections on one of the harvesters and visualised these as making Dragon scales, so the dragon brazier took form.

Geof Nicholson
I have enjoyed woodworking right from my primary school days when we went from North Chatton to Gore Main school for woodworking classes.
When I retired (a few years later!) I joined the Gore Woodworker Club. Being part of the club has broadened my appreciation of the many different woods and the products that can be made from them, along with the great camaraderie.
